Intervention by activist M K Thomas, Kerala state human rights commission order to investigate nursing education scam in K’taka.

The Kerala Human Rights Commission ordered an inquiry into the ongoing  nursing education  scam in Karnataka on the basis of Mr. M.K Thomas (Right to information activist ) revelation and the 24×7 news channels series ‘Education Scam and Day Robbery’. “I’ve directed the director general of police in Kerala to inquire and submit a report within 15 days”, said Byjunath, Judicial member and acting cairperson of Kerala State Human Rights Commission.

A large number of students from across Kerala have been allegedly duped by agents who promised to get them admission in nursing institutions in Karnataka. “Kerala police have received complaints in almost all districts in the state. Many of the students are in trouble because they took educational loans. Some who managed to get admission to nursing colleges in Karnataka had to discontinue their studies as the agents did not pay the money they collected from the students to the nursing institutions “said Byjunath.

A noted RTI activist MK Thomas was a one-man army was fighting against the atrocities of nursing mafia in Karnataka for a decade and a half. M.K Thomas’s revolutionary interventions and revelations of massive cheatings in the guise of various nursing courses in Karnataka have already created a massive movement in the society. The effort and role played by MK Thomas in issuing such an inquiry order by the Kerala Human Rights Commission is to be mentioned.

News about these ongoing nursing education scams in Karnataka appears in the mainstream media every day, every year. I submitted many complaints before various authorities many times. By none of the authorities never initiated any actions towards that. All those complaints are kept in deep freezer. Running two or more nursing institutions in one building, no adequate teaching staff , no adequate clinical facilities, exhortation of excess fees , conducting correspondence courses in PB BSC (N) , MSC (N) & GNM etc are some of the atrocities these managements implement.  A revised list of list of over 100 fraudulent nursing institutions in Karnataka , for protecting the interest of general public will be published shortly’ added Thomas. He said he will be extending all his possible support and co operations, guidance etc to Kerala Human Rights Commission for the successful investigation of this nursing education scam.
