Masood Educational & Charitable Trust (MECT) , a registered trust was founded in the year 2003-2004 and presently this educational trust runs three educational institutions. Masood College of Physiotherapy offers 4 years degree course in Physiotherapy, Masood College of Nursing offers 4 years BSc nursing, 2 years Post Basic Bsc (PB BSC Nursing) Nursing and 2 years MSC Nursing courses. All these courses are sanctioned by Govt. of Karnataka and
affiliated and recognized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science, Karnataka State Nursing and Midwifery Council and Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi.

Mangalore is a fast developing port city in Karnataka state and Masood Group of Institutions are situated in this city. Dr. Arif Masood, Secretary of Masood educational institutions said to our correspondent that he started this institution with an aim to provide an education that transforms students through rigorous coursework to  provide  an understanding of the needs of society and industry. And to collaborate with other academic and research institutes around the world to strengthen the education and research ecosystem.

The back bone of Masood Educational & Charitable Trust (MECT) is their managing committee, which consists of four eminent personalities with a high professional background. Our correspondent interacted with the Principal of Masood College of Nursing and Masood School of Nursing Dr.( Mrs) Veena G. Tauro who obtained Ph.D in nursing , a true example of the lady with the lamp and she shared her vision about nursing with our correspondent. She said nursing profession is one of the noblest of all professions. She focused on training individuals to be efficient nurses is an art of skill. She revealed that her institution helps the students to acquire knowledge, skills and attitude relevant to primary health care setting as well as to cope with emerging problems indecently. She explained that the high qualified dedicated faculties and infrastructure facilities provided at this institution helps their students in meeting the challenging requirements of toady. She said special emphasis has been given to the pursuit of quality education and excellence. Students of Masood Educational Institutions are lucky to have this kind of lady as their principal, a principal with a passion for producing high qualified nurses.  

This institution has very good and excellent physical infrastructure and it is sure that this infrastructure facilities satisfies all the norms of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science and other apex bodies such as spacious and well-furnished classrooms equipped with OHP, VCD televisions, slide projector and LCD projectors. 

This institution has well equipped 7 laboratories such as 

(1) Fundamental of Nursing Lab.   (2) Anatomy and Physiology Lab. (3) Nutrition Lab 

(4) Community Health Nursing Lab. (5) Maternal and Child Health Lab. (6) Audio Visual Aids Room.  (7) Computer Lab. All the laboratories are well equipped with necessary articles required to carry out all the practical of students during their course period. 

Clinical experience and practices are the back of nursing education. By keeping this principle in mind the management of Masood Educational Institutions arranged clinical facilities at 5 hospitals in Mangalore. Thus they ensure that each student passing out from this institution should be a perfect nurse.  The clinical facilities are arranged at (1) Govt. Wenlock Hospital, Mangalore – a 750 bedded Hospital. (2) Govt. Lady Goshen Hospital, Mangalore – a 260 bedded Hospital. (3)  Indiana Hospital, Mangalore – 300 bedded Hospital.  

Another speciality our correspondent found at MECT is that this institution owns a fleet of well-maintained buses for the transportation of students to hostels, hospital, college and community postings.  A separate hostel for boys and girls are provided and hostel is compulsory for all students and the food provided at the hostel is excellent 

Another notable factor our correspondent noticed at this institution is that the management initiated all the precautionary measures to eradicate ragging from the campus.  As per the guidelines of Honbl’e Supreme court of India, an anti-ragging committee headed by Chairman Dr. Arif Masood is functioning in the campus and sign boards “RAGGING IS PROHIBITED IN THE CAMPUS” can be found at each and every nook of this campus. Chairman Dr. Arif Masood explained that ragging incident never took place at this campus since its inception because before each session of classes begins there will be an orientation class for students for educating them on the negativity of ragging. Thus this campus Masood Educational Institution provides a peace full atmosphere for each and every students for completing their nursing and physiotherapy courses. We found hundreds of students in this campus and spoke to few of them. From every students face we can read the happiness and security they feel in this campus. They said for them it’s just a home away from home.  While speaking with our correspondent, Chairman Dr. Arif Masood opened his mind and explained that he will be starting few more new courses and thus making Masood Educational Institution one of the best destination for professional education in Mangalore.
